I used to be an avid runner but noticed that every time I ran frequently I had pain on the outside of my right knee. One time the pain was so severe I was walking with a noticeable limp for nearly 36 hours after my run. I thought I had two choices: don’t run often or go to the doctor. I opted for the former.

When I started working with Chika she asked what other activities I enjoyed. I mentioned running and told her about the pain in my knee. She then showed me the roll foam exercises to loosen up my calves and my IT band as well as stretches for my hip flexors. She asked that I get my own foam to use at home between our sessions. She told me to give running a try but to run shorter distances.

I used the foam roll before and after every run and even on days I didn’t run. I began running more frequently, up to 4x a week, and felt so confident my knee would not hurt that I entered the Capitol 10K on March 30. I ran the 6.2 miles pain free!

Even with my busy schedule, I find time to attend and truly appreciate Chika’s classes. She is very knowledgeable in training athletes and has pushed me to achieve my goals.

Her versatility in exercises has helped me maintain a good balance for my body as well. She has encouraged me to work on my shoulder rehabilitation (which I don’t like doing always) and stretching after workouts. Her workouts are fun and exciting and I always look forward to them.

I just wanted you to know what a difference you’ve made in my life. I really was unmotivated and just plain out of energy to do workouts on my own. My wife poked at me one too many times to work with you so I went to one of your classes, as you know. The only complaint I have now is that I waited so long to get to you. For me, you’ve changed my life – and I know you have for others too.

You’ve been the key reason I’ve lost 15lbs (and falling) and you’ve revived my energy. I didn’t think I could do it but you always kept at it and wouldn’t allow me to let myself down. I’m half way to my goal and I now know that I’m definitely going to make it. And I really feel better, different, lighter, and more flexible.

ChikaI have known Chika Christenson for over 1 year and am continually learning new techniques, gaining healthy perspective on living a balanced life and utilizing my body’s capacity for strength and fitness.

I have consistently attended her classes on a weekly basis for 6 months and always felt that Chika knew when to push, and when to let me take it at a slower pace. I had a hip problem that I started making comments on about pain I was experiencing and right away Chika told me what exercises and movements I shouldn’t be doing in order to keep any damage from occurring. Me and my friend have been training with Chika for about 6 weeks now and she is amazing!  I actually came across Results Personal Training online and read reviews about Chika and we decided to do partner lessons with her and I couldn’t be more pleased.

She is great personal trainer for many reasons.  If you have any sort of past injury, she is very helpful in making sure you do not hurt yourself and also teaching you about your injury and how it effects other things in your body and will give you many tips on not re-injuring yourself.  If anything begins to slightly hurt she will adjust the exercise.

If you are like me and are completely intimidated by places like golds gym or 24 hour fitness, the gym Chika trains at (South Congress Athletic Club) is amazing.  Very friendly, laid back atmosphere.  You don’t walk in and get intimidated by the equipment or the people.  Just overall a very friendly, fun place to work out and great variety of equipment.

Another great thing about Chika is she is not only super knowledgable about working out, but she is like having a personal nutritionist as well.  We keep a food log and she gives us advice (and does not judge you at all) and insight regarding your eating habits.  She offers a very well rounded program they will teach you lifelong skills.

Overall, I just really enjoy Chikas style of training, her demeanor and her knowledge.  She will challenge you and push you, but she doesn’t yell at you.  She is motivating and the time will fly by when you are working out with her.

I needed help. I couldn’t afford a trainer for an ongoing routine, but I needed to know how to use gym equipment. I’ve worked with Chika twice.

She’s matter-of-fact. She gets straight to the point. She is kind and compassionate. Truly, she wasn’t anything like I expected. There was no yelling or overly perky encouragement. She listened to me. She watched me move. She showed me how to do exercises that were in keeping with my poor physical condition.

At no point did she make me feel ungainly or out of place. And I am ungainly. Ha! I also loathe loathe loathe exercising. I’ve been driven to it by a health condition that responds best to weight loss.

Chika is a godsend. I don’t say this lightly. Also a godsend: the delightful friend who recognized I needed something to take my mind off the impending death of my mother and was so gracious as to provide me with two months of her services.

Allow me to tell you two short tales.

-One day she was making me do SOMETHING and my brain started going “Oh god just make it stop.” I then replied to my brain “shut the hell up, this is good for you, this is WHY YOU ARE HERE.”

-After my last workout, my entire body hurt. HURT. Like, I couldn’t get out of bed hurt. It was amazing. I thanked her on Facebook.

This woman will hand your ass to you, all the while telling you you’re doing a good job (thanks for that, by the way) and making good conversation.

But pleasant attitude aside, the thing is, I walked in to her nearly a year after breaking my foot, which seven months later led to a sciatic nerve problem. I’ve had back problems my whole life. This was worse than anything I’ve ever gone through with my back. I’d been working on it on my own, with yoga and acupuncture and really brutal massage that got my hips mostly back square. What we do, the entire focus of my work with Chika, is making sure all the OTHER muscles are strong. My legs, my shoulders, my core. Because if those are strong, my hips will have to do less and can maybe chill out and THEN get strong once they are better.

This woman is amazing. I’m indebted to her, and my friend, for kicking my ass and making me love it, literally and figuratively.

Chika makes working out fun.  It’s just that simple. After an hour of getting my butt handed to me on a (gym) mat, I can say, “gee, that was great, can I have some more?”.  I’ve learned so much about how my body responds to different types of movement-and why.  I’ve learned also how to correct my moves to be more efficient and beneficial.

I work with Chika at the South Congress Athletic Club, she also offers an outdoor fitness class that folks just love.  She is enthusiastic, understanding, funny, and all about getting you to your fitness goals in a way that’s fun (see above) and above all, sustainable.  All of the moves I learn with Chika, I can do on my own when I hit the gym between training sessions.  I’m seeing great results and also feel I’m learning the right way to do things, which in the long run will help to prevent workout-related injury.  She’s great!

So, it’s fitting that Chika’s business name mentions Results, because if you go see her and follow her advice, results are what you will get! One of the first things she did when I went to see her was analyze my posture and my walk. Right away she honed in on my hips, which, yes, as it turns out, I’ve had trouble with in the past. The exercises she gave me for that particular issue had that pelvic girdle turned the right way in no time.

I am not a trend-of-the-day kind of person, and what I love about Chika is that she isn’t either. She knows her stuff and grounds her training philosophy in practical knowledge, extensive training, and common sense. The time I spend working out with her just flies by, and she gets me to push myself more than I ever would on my own. And when I’m straining to get through a tough set, she’ll distract me at just the right time or say something encouraging and somehow I make it through the last rep. Sometimes we do interval training and sometimes we do sets of resistance training and body-weight exercises. There are always a few minutes of blessed stretching toward the end, too. I leave feeling energized and standing taller. Yeah, so maybe my legs are shaking a little–that’s how I know it was a great workout. :)

My sessions with Chika are at the South Congress Athletic Club, which is a great old-school gym.  I don’t want to go into too much detail about my specific workouts, because she customizes, so what works for me won’t be what works for you. But whatever your goal is, trust me–she can help you get there. Honestly, I wish I could afford to work out with Chika every day. It would be money well spent.

I was looking for a personal trainer to help me find some exercises that I could do to help strengthen my back and to help me become a stronger runner. Before going to Chika I had hurt my back and was having alot of pain in my foot which was keeping me from running.
I met with her for about 6 weeks and learned so much that has helped me in my current exercise routine. I learned how to use bands, foam rollers and learned so many exercises that I can do on a daily basis that have helped me strengthen my back and keep my muscles stretched. She was very easy to work with and I would easily recommend her to anyone wanting to find a personal trainer. She also sent me descriptions of each exercise that we did so that I could have something to refer to when doing exercises at my home.

I don’t like to work out, but I don’t mind working out with Chika. She makes it enjoyable, even as I’m sweating and panting away in her class. She’s very laid-back and doesn’t scream at you like some trainers have a tendency to do. When I came into the SOCO Athletic Club, I had not seriously exercised since my spinal fusion in 2005.  And honestly, with 5 of my vertebra being fused I was apprehensive in doing so.
One of the owners, Marc, after hearing my hesitation referred me to Chika for one-on-one training.  After the first consultation I was hooked.  Her knowledge of the body is fascinating.  She listened to my goals and meticulously analyzed the pain I was experiencing.  Under her training, in about a month, I was able to ease some dagger-sharp neck pain I had been struggling with for years.  Chika takes every precaution to ensure that I correctly and safely perform an invigorating personal work out.  Each movement is skillfully orchestrated and carefully scrutinized.  My pain is under control and the physical results are amazing.

I’ve trained with Chika for over three years, most recently to come back from the leg fracture depicted in my pic. I played college sports a few [ahem] years ago, but after a few months on crutches I started to worry that this injury might be the end of my life as a fun-loving (but trash-talking) weekend athlete.
