I am a forty-four year old attorney in Austin. I met Chika for the first time in the summer of 2005. I had recently divorced and decided that I wanted to start taking care of myself again by working out. I had not been to a gym in several months, if not years. Chika and I have been working together, almost weekly, for over two (2) years now. She is fun to work with and pushes you while maintaining a sense of humor. She has taught me how to lift weights properly while maintaining flexibility and a cardiovascular routine. She is largely responsible for my new “habit” of working out. I now go to the gym 3-4 times per week and think nothing of it. I still see her weekly and she continues to torture me (in a friendly way, of course) with new ideas and exercises. I consider Chika not only my trainer but a good friend as well.

ChikaI have worked out for many years in classes and on my own and Chika Christenson is by far the best trainer I have encountered. I have known her for over 3 years as a member of several of her classes. Chika is always helpful, knowledgeable and professional. Her background as an athlete gives her a unique perspective into training, preventing injuries and tailoring workouts for those who have been injured.

She also committed to the entire well-being of all her clients and will often follow up with us about our progress. She motivates me with her positive attitude, her insight, and by sharing her own progress toward her own fitness goals. Chika is not just concerned with weight loss or muscle gain; she genuinely cares about whether I am making progress toward my personal fitness goals and reaching my full potential. When I first started taking her classes, my goals were to gain strength and stamina; I have reached both by working out with her.

Chika also keeps her classes fun by constantly adding new techniques or exercises that she has researched and tried herself. Chika always encourages me and as well as the other members of class. She tailors the classes for each person’s fitness level. She is an active participant in the classes she teaches so we all know that we can reach our potential because of her example. Chika is the reason I keep working out.

I used to be an avid runner but noticed that every time I ran frequently I had pain on the outside of my right knee. One time the pain was so severe I was walking with a noticeable limp for nearly 36 hours after my run. I thought I had two choices: don't run often or go to the doctor. I opted for the former.

When I started working with Chika she asked what other activities I enjoyed. I mentioned running and told her about the pain in my knee. She then showed me the roll foam exercises to loosen up my calves and my IT band as well as stretches for my hip flexors. She asked that I get my own foam to use at home between our sessions. She told me to give running a try but to run shorter distances.

I used the foam roll before and after every run and even on days I didn't run. I began running more frequently, up to 4x a week, and felt so confident my knee would not hurt that I entered the Capitol 10K on March 30. I ran the 6.2 miles pain free!

ChikaI have to say that Chika's classes are not only great for getting in shape or maintaining fitness, but I haven't found a group session that's as much FUN anywhere! The diversity of exercise experience and fitness levels in Chika's classes is striking, yet Chika knows how to inject fun in the right places while keeping everybody moving and tailoring the workouts to meet individual needs and goals.

Advanced fitness 'fanatics' and folks new to exercise get what they need, fitness-wise, and in all my years of fitness activities, the camaraderie developed between participants is unparalleled. In short, you get a great workout, it's fun, and you'll probably make a lot of new friends!

ChikaNot only am I a TXRD Lonestar Rollergirl but an all-around athlete. I spend my weeks running, playing soccer, softball, kickball, and training for roller derby. Even with my busy schedule, I find time to attend and truly appreciate Chika’s classes. She is very knowledgeable in training athletes and has pushed me to achieve my goals.

Her versatility in exercises has helped me maintain a good balance for my body as well. She has encouraged me to work on my shoulder rehabilitation (which I don't like doing always) and stretching after workouts. Her workouts are fun and exciting and I always look forward to them.

Dear Chika:

I just wanted you to know what a difference you've made in my life. I really was unmotivated and just plain out of energy to do workouts on my own. My wife poked at me one too many times to work with you so I went to one of your classes, as you know. The only complaint I have now is that I waited so long to get to you. For me, you've changed my life - and I know you have for others too.

You've been the key reason I've lost 15lbs (and falling) and you've revived my energy. I didn't think I could do it but you always kept at it and wouldn't allow me to let myself down. I'm half way to my goal and I now know that I'm definitely going to make it. And I really feel better, different, lighter, and more flexible.

If there's any downside to working out with you it's that I have to begin buying new clothes. But even that's not so bad. Anyway, thanks for all that you do. You've really made a difference for me.

ChikaI have known Chika Christenson for over 1 year and am continually learning new techniques, gaining healthy perspective on living a balanced life and utilizing my body’s capacity for strength and fitness.

I have consistently attended her classes on a weekly basis for 6 months and always felt that Chika knew when to push, and when to let me take it at a slower pace. I had a hip problem that I started making comments on about pain I was experiencing and right away Chika told me what exercises and movements I shouldn’t be doing in order to keep any damage from occurring. My fitness goals while working with Chika were to obtain a high energy level and relieve stress, as well as loose weight and continue to tone my body.
